In 1810, the name was changed to Boonville after Daniel Boone, whose family had been instrumental in the town's early development.

As with many other towns along the Missouri River, Boonville was once a major trading center for Native Americans and European settlers. The city's location on the river made it an ideal place for trading furs and other goods between tribes across North America. As a result, there were many battles fought over control of this important junction between cultures.

Boone County was formed in 1820 from Howard County to the west. The county seat was designated as Boonville by an act of the Missouri Legislature on December 15th, 1821.

Boonville played a major role during both World War I and II, when it housed prisoners at Camp Boonville and Camp Columbia, respectively. From 1942 until 1945, the camp held German POWs who were captured overseas by American forces during WWII.

Boonville is the county seat of Cooper County, Missouri, United States. The population was 8,319 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Boonville was founded in 1810 by Moses Austin and named after Daniel Boone. Its historical importance is as a port on the Missouri River and as a key point in the Civil War battle known as the Battle of Boonville.

Food in Boonville Missouri

The only place to get breakfast in Boonville is at the Dowd's Catfish and BBQ. The food was all good, although I was a little disappointed in the biscuit. The ham gravy comes in a Mason jar with a piece of marble shoved down into it. This is a very cool way to serve the gravy and works well. It doesn't make the gravy taste any better though.

The fried catfish was very good, as was the BBQ sandwich. Both were served on white bread with pickles and onions on the side.

Dowd's has excellent service and friendly staff. The atmosphere is casual with an old school diner feel to it.

Boonville is a cute little town with several antique stores, restaurants and museums.
