History of Limon Colorado
Limon Colorado is a small town in the southeastern part of the state. It is about 80 miles away from Pueblo and about 50 miles away from La Junta, which is another small city in Colorado. The closest major city to Limon is Denver.
Limon Colorado was founded by a man named John H. Foster in 1885. He was an entrepreneur who had come to Colorado because he heard that it was a great place to start a business. He decided to build a railroad line between Denver and Pueblo and needed money so he started selling land along the way so people could settle there and make their living off of farming or ranching.
The city continued growing until it had reached its current size of just over 5,000 people today (2010 census).
In the past 10 years, Limon has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Colorado due to its close proximity with Rocky Mountain National Park as well as other natural wonders such as Garden of the Gods or Manitou Springs (aka “Manitou”).
The town was founded by settlers from nearby Limon, Kansas, who were looking for a new place to live after the Kansas town was destroyed by the great tornado of 1880. They traveled westward toward Colorado and settled in what would become Limon.
The city's economy relied on agriculture until 1916 when drilling began in the area. Since then, oil production has been an important part of the local economy as well as agriculture and ranching.
