History of Olive Branch Mississippi

Olive Branch, Mississippi was founded in 1836 on the site of an old Chickasaw Indian village. The city was named for the olive trees that came with the land and were cultivated by the early settlers. The first written record of Olive Branch came from the 1840 U.S. Census, which showed 21 residents.

Olive Branch's first church was organized in 1837 by a group of Presbyterian pastors visiting from North Carolina. They helped organize the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church one year later, and it became a part of the Presbytery of Mississippi in 1840 when a permanent pastor could be assigned to the congregation.

The city is located near the center of DeSoto County and near Memphis, Tennessee. It's also just 20 miles away from Mid-South Regional Airport (OLV), making it easy to get away!

Home of the Mississippi RiverKings, the Landers Center is a multi-purpose sports arena that hosts family events and concerts. The first church was built on Main Street in 1835 shortly after the town's founding. It is now home to Olive Branch United Methodist Church which has been serving congregants since then. The building itself dates back even earlier than that, as it was originally constructed around 1780 as a small cabin before being expanded over time until it reached its current size in 1910. This makes this structure one of the oldest continually used buildings in DeSoto County!

In addition to its rich history, Olive Branch is also home to some beautiful scenery. The town's main thoroughfare (Goodman Road) runs through downtown and past several historic buildings including City Hall which was built in 1907 but renovated recently with modern amenities such as television screens inside each room so visitors can watch meetings or listen if they wish without having to leave their homes.
