The St. Augustine Amphitheatre is one of the largest outdoor venues in all of Florida. With a seating capacity of over 4,000 people, it has been the site of some of the most monumental concerts and events in recent history.

The history of this venue spans longer than a decade, but, for many people, it is a place that holds some sort of sentimental value. This year, however, the amphitheater was selected as one of the ‘Best Outdoor Concert Venues' by USA Today Readers' Choice.

The St. Augustine Amphitheatre has become more popular with each passing year because it is able to provide an intimate setting for everyone to enjoy and relax during any performance or event that takes place here. Whether you are looking for something to do for a day or just want to spend your time outdoors with friends and family, there are plenty of great things to do at this amphitheater!

Founded by Spanish conquistador Pedro Menendez de Aviles in 1565, St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement within the borders of the continental United States. The city has played a significant role in American history since its founding, first as a Spanish colony and later as part of the British Empire. During the Civil War, it was one of only three seaports not captured by the Confederacy, and was instrumental in supplying Union forces during their occupation of Florida.

St. Augustine Amphitheatre sits just outside downtown St. Augustine on Anastasia Island, across the bay from downtown St. Augustine's historic district and off of State Road A1A (Anastasia Boulevard). The amphitheater itself is situated on Anastasia State Park land, adjacent to Anastasia Island Beach and near several historical points of interest.

In 1965, the St. Augustine Amphitheatre was born as a venue for summer concerts by the St. Augustine Municipal Band. The venue has come a long way since then! A $2 million restoration gave it a new stage and seating in 2001, and it now hosts many concerts and events every year. Here's the history of this wonderful Florida venue.

Construction of St. Augustine Amphitheatre

The amphitheater is located on Anastasia Island, which is just across the water from historic St. Augustine, Florida. It's part of Anastasia State Recreation Area, which attracts over a million visitors every year.

The amphitheater was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1965 as a venue for summer concerts by the St. Augustine Municipal Band. In those days, it hosted about 500 people per concert!
